It is common for senior dogs to have incontinence problems. Fill a spray bottle with 50/50 vinegar and water. Spray the solution liberally directly on the urine area. You want to saturate the carpet so the solution will get down into the carpet fibers. When the solution is on the stain, use a carpet brush to work the solution down into the carpet. The vinegar will help remove the odor from the carpet. 

Blot the solution with paper towels until the paper towels look dry. When the area is completely dry, vacuum the area, and the stain and odor should be gone.
